ABOUT US
SP Hockey Development was founded in 2022 by Founder and Head of Player Development, Sean White. Sean played his youth hockey in the Chicago area, winning two State Championships and a National Championship along the way. After spending two seasons in the Central States Hockey League (now NA3HL) and stints with St. Norbert College and St. Mary's University of Minnesota, Sean's hockey operations career began in scouting. There, he spent time in the NAHL, OHL, USHL, and two scouting services doing NHL, OHL, and minor hockey scouting before transitioning into the player development space in 2018 with Prodigy Hockey, one of the premier player development groups in the country. Over the course of working within the development world he found his true passion within the game of hockey; helping players get better. Fast-forward to 2022 and Sean ventured into the player development space with his own endeavor, SP Hockey Development.
SPH works with players from youth to pro and everything in between. Operations are based in the Chicago area but we work with students coast to coast. Sean has a deep passion for teaching and helping players achieve their goals of reaching higher levels of hockey. His extensive scouting background provides a unique perspective with regard to player evaluation and the ability to provide game applicable solutions to improve all aspects of play. With constant evaluation, research, and study of training methods in many sports, SPH's teachings will be ever-evolving with new and fresh ways to teach and further develop players. It is not just about learning "how", but also learning "why".
In addition to SP Hockey Development, Sean also spent the 2024-25 season as the Assistant Coach for the St. Viator Varsity 2 team. After a bracket-busting run in the State Tournament nearly making the Elite 8, Varsity 2 went on to capture the Academic Hockey League title, with many players graduating to Varsity in the '25 and '26 seasons to follow.

ZACK FREIMUTH
Player Development Coach
Zack joined SP Hockey Development as a Player Development Coach in the summer of 2026.
Zack was a long time student and was one of the originals before SPH even became official. He grew along with us and was an anchor to much of the programming for high school/Midget players and later the Junior/College programs.
After a prolific high school hockey career at Glenbrook South as a 4-Year Varsity player, Zack went from Illinois High School Hockey directly to Tier II Junior Hockey, spending time in the NCDC and finishing up strong in the CCHL before hanging up the skates to pursue his academic career at the University of Wisconsin. After a year off from competitive hockey, Zack joined the University of Wisconsin Badgers ACHA M2 team, competing in the WCCHA.
We can think of no one better to have on board to share and teach what we do than someone who so brilliantly and diligently learned it and lived it as a student first- hand for so many years.
